Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to our graduate programs, you’ll need:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Background or demonstrated interest in your chosen field of study
- Strong character and alignment with our community values
These requirements establish a foundation for admission, but we take a comprehensive approach to reviewing applications. We’ll consider your complete academic record, professional experience, personal qualities, and potential to contribute to and benefit from graduate study at FTC Northern. For MFA programs in dance and fine art, your portfolio or audition is a central component of the review process.

Fall Semester
- International Application Deadline: May 1
- Domestic Application Deadline: August 1
- Classes Begin: End of August
Spring Semester
- International Application Deadline: October 1
- Domestic Application Deadline: December 1
- Classes Begin: Mid-January
Rolling Admission
We review applications on a rolling basis, evaluating your application as soon as it’s complete and typically notifying you of our decision within 4-6 weeks. We encourage you to apply early to maximize your scholarship opportunities and allow adequate time for enrollment planning.
International Students: We recommend applying at least 3-4 months before your intended start date to allow sufficient time for visa processing.
Our Holistic Review Process
We take a comprehensive approach to graduate admission, evaluating each applicant holistically. Our admissions committee considers:
- Undergraduate academic achievement and the rigor of your coursework
- Graduate-level coursework or professional certifications, if applicable
- Professional experience and career accomplishments
- The quality of your personal statement and writing ability
- Letters of recommendation from academic or professional references
- Research interests, creative work, or technical expertise relevant to your field
- Artistic ability and portfolio (for MFA programs)
- Alignment with FTC Northern’s educational philosophy and your program’s specific focus
