Important: Official Procedures Required
Non-attendance does not automatically drop you from courses or withdraw you from FTC Northern. You remain responsible for tuition, fees, and any academic penalties until you complete the official procedures described below.
All course drops and withdrawals must be processed through the Office of the Registrar using the appropriate forms. Contact information is provided at the end of this page.
Dropping Courses (While Remaining Enrolled)
If you drop one or more courses but remain enrolled at FTC Northern, the refund you receive depends on when you officially drop the course.
How to Drop a Course
- Submit a completed Course Add/Drop Form to the Office of the Registrar
- The form must be approved by your academic advisor
- The official drop date is determined by the date your advisor approves the form
Refund Schedule for Dropped Courses:
| Course(s) Canceled: | Refundable Tuition: |
|---|---|
| During the first two weeks of classes | 100% tuition refund |
| During the third or fourth week of classes | 50% tuition refund |
| After the fourth week of classes | No tuition refund |
Important: Any student who drops below 12 credits (undergraduate full-time status) or 9 credits (graduate full-time status) will risk losing full-time financial aid and have the award adjusted accordingly. See the Scholarships & Aid page for more information.
Withdrawal from FTC Northern
If you withdraw completely from FTC Northern, the refund you receive depends on the type of withdrawal and the timing. There are several types of withdrawal, each with different procedures and refund implications.
Official Withdrawal
Official withdrawal removes you from your academic program and removes your matriculated status. Students who do not plan to return to FTC Northern must complete the official withdrawal procedures.
How to Withdraw:
- Submit a completed Withdrawal Request Form to the Office of the Registrar
- The date of withdrawal is determined by the date the form is received by the Registrar’s Office
Refund Schedule:
| Official Withdrawal Date: | Refundable Tuition and Fees: |
|---|---|
| By the day before the semester begins | 100% tuition and fees refund |
| During the first two weeks of classes | 100% tuition refund |
| During the third or fourth week of classes | 50% tuition refund |
| After the fourth week of classes | No refund |
Withdrawal Processing Fee: A $300 processing fee applies to all withdrawals.
Leave of Absence
A matriculated student in good standing who is granted a leave of absence for personal circumstances may be entitled to a refund of applicable tuition. Unlike withdrawal, an approved leave of absence maintains your matriculated status during the leave period, and you are not required to apply for readmission to register for your return semester.
How to Request Leave:
- Contact the Office of Student Affairs to request an official leave of absence
Refund Schedule: Same as official withdrawal schedule (see above)
Important: A student who departs campus without first going through the official process to request leave at the Office of Student Affairs will be deemed to have attended the semester as far as tuition and fee charges and refunds are concerned.
Annulled Registration
Students who take a leave of absence from FTC Northern voluntarily before the first day of classes may have their registration annulled.
- Refund: Tuition and fees are refunded in full
- Status: You are not included in the institutional records as having registered for that semester, and new students will not secure any privileges for admission for any subsequent semester as returning students
Administrative Withdrawal
Degree-seeking students who have not attended courses and have failed to request an official Leave of Absence may be administratively withdrawn by FTC Northern.
- Effective Date: The last known date of attendance, which may affect your tuition bill and/or financial aid awards
- Readmission: You must apply for readmission through the Office of Admissions to continue studies toward a degree
Cancellation of Registration or Suspension for Cause
For a student whose registration is canceled or who is suspended for cause from FTC Northern, tuition refunds follow the standard withdrawal schedule, unless specified otherwise in the disciplinary action taken.
FTC Northern hopes every student will be successful. However, if a student’s behavior is severely disruptive to the campus, or if, after considerable deliberation, he or she is judged by FTC Northern Judicial Committee to pose a danger to others, he or she will be asked to leave. FTC Northern may offer such a student the chance to complete coursework and earn credit off-campus. Alternatively, FTC Northern may offer a tuition refund in accordance with the standard withdrawal schedule.
Special Circumstances & Appeals
FTC Northern recognizes that extraordinary circumstances sometimes require exceptions to our standard refund policies.
Tuition Refund Appeal
Under special circumstances, such as medical needs or military service, FTC Northern may be able to make an exception and refund tuition based on an appeal.
How to Submit an Appeal:
- Submit a written statement explaining the reason for the withdrawal
- Prepare supporting documentation (e.g., medical records, military activation orders)
- Submit your appeal to sfs@mt.feitian.edu for committee review
Processing Time: FTC Northern will make a decision on the appeal within 2 to 3 weeks.
Petition for Refund
Under extenuating circumstances, students may petition for a refund of tuition.
- Note: Fees are non-refundable
- How to Submit: Petitions should be submitted to the Student Financial Services to be reviewed by a committee
Financial Aid and Scholarship Implications
If you receive institutional scholarships or need-based aid from FTC Northern, dropping courses or withdrawing will affect your aid.
Dropping Courses: If you drop below full-time status (12 credits for undergraduates, 9 credits for graduates), you will lose your full-time scholarships and financial aid for that semester.
Complete Withdrawal: If you do not enroll or withdraw from FTC Northern, you may be required to return any “unearned” portion of financial aid received. Your institutional scholarships and aid will end the day after your official date of separation.
Room and Board Coverage: Any student who receives Room and Board coverage who separates from FTC Northern will have their coverage end within 48 hours of the official date of separation.
Federal/State/Private Aid: If you receive federal, state, or private financial aid, you must comply with that institution’s policies on financial aid refunds.
Important: Before making any changes to your enrollment, contact Student Financial Services to understand how it will affect your financial aid package.
