Applicant Types
Whether you’re a first-year student, transfer student, international student, or returning adult learner, FTC Northern has a pathway designed for you. Each applicant type has specific requirements and application procedures tailored to your unique background and educational journey.
Admission Requirements
To be considered for admission to our undergraduate programs, you’ll need:
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Background or demonstrated interest in your chosen field of study
- Strong character and alignment with our community values
These requirements establish a foundation for admission, but we take a comprehensive approach to reviewing applications. We’ll consider your complete academic record, personal qualities, experiences, and potential to contribute to and benefit from an FTC Northern education. For dance and music applicants, your audition is a central component of the review process.

Transfer Students: You may apply for either fall or spring admission. We’ll evaluate your transfer credits upon admission.
International Students: We recommend applying at least 3-4 months before your intended start date to allow sufficient time for visa processing.
Our Holistic Review Process
We take a comprehensive approach to admission, evaluating each applicant as a whole person rather than focusing solely on grades and test scores. Our admissions committee considers:
- Academic achievement and the rigor of your coursework
- Standardized test scores, if you choose to submit them (FTC Northern is test-optional)
- The quality of your personal statement and writing ability
- Letters of recommendation and character references
- Extracurricular involvement, leadership, and community service
- Artistic ability (for arts programs) or technical proficiency (for science programs)
- Unique experiences, perspectives, and potential contributions to our community
- Alignment with FTC Northern’s educational philosophy and values
We recognize that academic potential takes many forms. If you demonstrate exceptional promise, determination, or unique talents, even if you don’t meet every criterion listed, we encourage you to apply.
